Workshop on Amino Acid Analyser Techniques
The Institute organized the 12 th workshop on Amino Acid Analyser Techniques, which took place at the Headquarters of the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT) on Monday, 26 th to Friday, 30 th October, 2009. The workshop was to acquaint and equip participants with the latest techniques and methods of protein separation using Amino Acid Analyser and other related equipment. The workshop also addressed the procedure for carrying out effective routine maintenance and trouble shooting of the amino acid analyser.
The course covered basic concepts of amino acid analyzer and other related equipment methods of analysis; reversed phased method of analysis; instrumentation, operation, trouble shooting and maintenance; applications of amino acid analyzer; methods of preparing samples for amino acid analyzer and other related equipment and geometry of the column for amino acid analyzer equipment.
Mr. Jackson Osuh, Director, Education, Training and Inspectorate (ETI) welcoming participants to the workshop advised them to share their knowledge and skills in their profession as the training was designed to be an interactive session.
The Registrar/DG/CEO who was ably represented by the Director of Finance and Administration Mr. Lalai J. Musa, told participants that the workshop was a capacity building one and that the Institute as a regulatory body was concerned about professionalism among practicing technologists. Having said that he declared the workshop opened.
Goodwill messages were also delivered by some members of management who were in attendance during the opening ceremony of the workshop.
The papers presented at the workshop are Regulation of Analytical Standards in Laboratories The Role of NISLT; Principles and Concepts of Amino Acid Analysis Techniques; Normal/Reverse Phase in Amino Acid Analysis; Sampling, Hydrolysis and Methods of Analysis of Amino, Acid Compunds; Application of Amino Acid Techniques in Medicine and Pharmaceutical Samples; Application of Amino Acid Techniques in Food and Agricultural Samples; Quality Assurance and Good Laboratory Practices in Amino Acid Analysis; Logical Trouble Shooting and Maintenance of Amino Acid Equipment and Safety in Analytical Laboratory.
Participants were taken through practical demonstrations on the application of the equipment for amino acid analysis.
Certificates and CDs containing all the papers presented by resource persons, contact addresses of resource persons; members of participants and their contact addresses and the group photographs were given to participants.
The workshop had twelve participants in attendance from various organizations and institutions. These included Adekeye Bosede Temitope from Biological Science Department, Covenant University, Otta; Apata Solape Mayowa from Biological Science Department, Covenant University, Otta; Akinlabu Deborah Kehinde from Biological Science Department, Covenant University, Otta; Aluko Deborah Adekunbi from Department of Veterinary Physiology & Biochemistry & Pharmacology, University of Ibadan, Ibadan; Fwangle Job Longse from Department of Veterinary Physiology & Biochemistry, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Abuja, Abuja; Efosa John Osarenren from Department of Science Laboratory Technology, Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State; Johnson Olaitan Daniel from Department of Science Laboratory Technology, Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State; Egielewa Samuel Jacob from Department of Science Laboratory Technology, Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State; Odegbile Sunday Ayoola from Chemistry Department, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ijanikin, Lagos; Ogunbanwo Cecilia Mojisola from Biology Department, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ijanikin, Lagos; Mohammed Abubakar Sadiq from Chemistry/Biochemistry Unit, Science Laboratory Technology Department, Federal Polytechnic, Nassarawa and Nwalia Olubunmi Omojolagbe from Chemistry Department, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Otto-Ijanikin, Lagos.
