What does the Institute do?

Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology is professional body of science laboratory technologists in Nigeria.

Is the Institute established by law?

Yes, the Institute is established by the Act No 12 of 2003 of the National Assembly with mandates to achieve.

What are the mandates of the Institute?

How do i qualify for admission as a member of the Institute?

A person shall be eligible to be admitted as a registered member of the Institute if he has completed a course in Science Laboratory Technology and holds either B.Sc/B.Tech or HND or equivalent qualification in Science Laboratory Technology awarded by an accredited institution of higher learning.

What are the membership grades of the Institute?

The Institute has two(2) corporate membership grades:
i.  Fello (FISLT) ii.  Associate (AISLT)

three non-corporate membership grades
i.  Honourary (Hon. FISLT)
ii.  Ordinary
iii.  Student

Are all registered members eligible to practic as science laboratory technologist?

No. Only corporate members with valid Annual Licence to Practice are eligible to practice

Can a member upgrade his/her membership?

Members can apply for upgrading by obtaining a form from the Institute secretariat or online after obtaining the necessary qualification/experience.

What are the admission requirements of becoming an Associate member?
The person must hold B.Sc / B.Tech or HND/FD in Science Laboratory Technology awarded by a recognized higher institution

What are the admission requirements of becoming a Fellow of the Institute?

The applicant must have been registered as an Associate member. The application can either be made by
i.  research (5 years post registration and Fellowship thesis) OR
ii.  experience (15 years post registration)

What is the cost implication of registering as an Associate member of the Institute?

It costs a total of N15,200.00, if you are a holder of NISLT HND/FD. Applicants without NISLT HND/FD will pay additional N1,600.00 making a total of N16,800.00 only. The breakdown is shown bellow. However, the annual subscription is subject to change as the Coucil may consider necessary
  i.  form N2000:00
 ii.  subscription N10,000:00
iii.  Rules & Regulation N500.00
iv.  Annual Licence to Practice (ALP)/ID card N700.00

What is the cost of being registered as a Fellow of the Institute?

It cost N25,000:00 to apply for Fellow by experience and N25,000:00 by research. These amount can be reviewed by the Council of the Institute when necessary.

What is the mode of payment?

All payments can be made to our secretariat or by bank draft addressed to The Registrar, Nigerian Institute of Science Labratory Technology, Samonda, Ibadan.

When to pay annual subscriptions?

All registered members shall pay annual subscriptions as may be specified and approved by Council from time to time and payment shall be due on the second day of January of each year.

How do I participate in the activities of the Institute?

Only financially current members shall participate fully in all the activities organized by the Institute or the branches or at zonal levels.

How many members can form a branch of the Institute?

At least 10 corporate and financially current members could form a branch approved by Council at State, Institutional and Organizational levels.

Does the Institute organise training for her members?

Yes; the Institute organizes Seminars/Training workshops annually for members and interested members of the public in various and relevant areas of Science Laboratory Technology.
