ASLTON

ASSOCIATION OF SCIENCE LABORATORY TECHNOLOGISTS OF NIGERIA (ASLTON) )

ASLTON is as old as the creation of Laboratory regulatory body in Nigeria which was formed since 1971 but started operating with the name "Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT) members".

However, in accordance with National Assembly ACT No. 12 of 2003 establishing the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology and formation of the Governing Council, the third arm of the profession ASLTON was approved and duly registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) which was then charged with the responsibilities of handling professional members’ welfare

ASLTON afterwards took charge of the responsibility of handling and managing the professional licensed NISLT members’ welfare, labour matters and other licences affecting her registered members in every sector of the economy – both Private and Public, creating Diaspora linkages, collaboration and specialized interactive professional scientific sessions

Every graduate of Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) in any of the options/Techniques shall be duly registered and professionally licensed by the Regulatory Body- The Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT), Governing Council in accordance with the provision of NISLT enabling Act No.12, 2003 Part 1 Section 2(d) and 3.

A minimum of ten (10) SLT graduates in a location can form a branch of the ASLTON.

The Association (ASLTON) is multifaceted consisting of HND, SLT graduates, refers to as Laboratory Technologist and Degree holders also refers to as Laboratory Scientist including holders of higher degrees (PgD, Masters and PhDs).

ASLTON members are practitioners engaged in various job descriptions which including Civil Service, Teaching, Research and Science/Technology laboratories in Schools, Institutions, Corporations, Ministries/Agencies, paramedics, health and related industries.

At the moment, ASLTON has ninety-one (91) branches spread across the country with Two (2) Council representatives elected/selected from each of the six geo-political zones of the federation into the NISLT Governing Council.

The ASLTON National Executive committee consists of; The national President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, National General Secretary, Assistant National General Secretary, National Treasurer, National Financial Secretary, National Public Relations Officer, National Auditor and the immediate Past President and immediate Past Secretary as Ex-Officio 1 & 2 respectively. In case the incumbent President is re-elected, the immediate past president remains as the ex-officio.

ASLTON National Executive committee are elected by ASLTON states and branches delegate at the Biennial Delegate Congress (BDC) for period of three (3) years from the date of inauguration.

ASLTON ran for six years (2003-2009) under the governance of NISLT led by Dr. Folorunso Ijabone who was then the NISLT Director- General and NISLT Council during a season tagged as "Transition and Transformation moment" from NISLT branches, states and zones to ASLTON branches, states, zones and finally national when the election was conducted to birth an elected national executive committee (NEC) led by persons holding the highest rank (FELLOW) of the profession. The NEC leadership chart is as reflected below;

  • Elder Olu-Ajayi Michael FISLT (Pioneer from 2010-2016)

  • Mr. Osas Iyamu FISLT (2016- 2019)

  • Mr. Damos Sylvanus Nanle FISLT (2019-2022)

  • Mr. Omorilewa Ayotunde FISLT (2023-DATE)
